PE Survey, February 2015 - Results

There was a reasonably strong response to the survey with 162 out of 239 surveys being returned to school.  Thank you to those children and parents who took the time to give us your feedback; it is essential in helping us to understand how best to develop PE and sport in Woodford.

Participation in school-run clubs has been higher than ever this year, particularly in upper KS2.

This is a trend that is reflected in participation in clubs outside of school.

The majority of our KS2 pupils can already swim at least 25m unaided.

We asked about how often people read the school's online newsletter or access the PE blog.  More than half of the parents who responded read the newsletter every week but few people were aware of the PE blog at the time.  Page views since then indicate that the blog is viewed an average of 7 times each day currently though.

Lastly, we asked about whether you think we do enough to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle as a school.  The response was mostly positive but around 1/4 of parents think we can do more.  Thank you to those who explained their views and highlighted what you think we can improve on.

Points to action in the coming term:

  • 9 children are not currently involved in a sports club, either in or out of school, and all have been invited to join our KS2 Multi-Skills club, run by Sally Pullyblank, a PE Specialist Teacher from Hele's
  • Of the children who are currently unable to swim 25metres, those in Y5/6 have been offered the chance to take part in swimming lessons during the summer term.  The same offer will be made every year, ensuring nobody misses out.
  • There are currently fewer clubs on offer to Y3/4 thanY5/6 and this is clearly reflected in the participation.  Increasing our extra-curricular participation for year 3/4 will be a priority for the summer term and next year.
  • Several parents said their children would be interested in free after-school clubs.  We do run several free after-school clubs already, and we have done so all year.  These clubs will be advertised in the school newsletter for two weeks (where possible) before letters are given out in school.  Have a look in this week's newsletter for information on an archery club for year 3/4 this term!
  • Several parents said they would like to be more informed about what their children are doing, PE-wise, in school.  Greater awareness of our PE blog will help to address this.  We will ensure the blog is updated frequently with information on all yeargroups.
  • Several parents said they would be interested in a parents running/fitness club.  This is a great idea and something we will explore this term.
