On Wednesday the 20th of May 2015 it was the Plymouth Y5/6 Tag Rugby Championships at Plymouth Albion. Ebony and Kobe from Willow, along with Jess from Beech, represented year 6 and Andrew, Erin R, Tyler, Ben W, Taylor and Matthew (from Chestnut) and Bethan (from Beech) completed the squad. There was some fantastic sportsmanship and some amazing games played. We got to the Quarter-Finals and unluckily got knocked out by Old Priory although we had won 4 games and drawn 1 game before that!

Tag Rugby at Ridgeway
Tuesday 12th May 2015 was the annual Plympton Family Y5/6 Tag Rugby festival.
There was some fantastic game play and it was easy to spot the regular Rugby players in the teams. Above all I was very impressed with the level of defence from each school which was reflected in the scores—not many tries scored but that was due to the fantastic defending from all teams.
Woodford Primary school were the winners on the day having won both of their games. They had some fantastic players who used their speed and agility to break through to the try line. Congratulations to you all! Yealmpstone Farm took second place thanks to a try in their first game—they had the same amount of points as Chaddlewood primary so we had to go on tries scored to work out the overall results.
Thank you to all of the staff who made the arrangements and brought along their teams—I know that your children appreciate it and so do I. I would also like to thank Ms Gray from Ridgeway PE department for arranging such a high calibre of young leaders for me—they were brilliant!
Congratulations to all that took part today—I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did—we are looking forward to seeing you at our next family event.

Ridgeway School
This week, Lucy F and Lauren T (Willow), Owen M and Ben W (Chestnut) and Tommy A (Sycamore) represented Woodford at a 5 a-side competition at Goals and came back with the winners trophy! The children competed against Montpelier, Drake, St Budeaux, Longcause, Weston Mill and Cann Bridge winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 1 to finish top of the league! Well done to Owen who won the award for best sportsmanship at the event too!.
This is the third winners trophy Woodford have claimed (after our year 6 boys football team and our year 3/4 multi-skills) at recent inter-school events. What a talented group of children we have here!
Football Tournament at Ridgeway
On Tuesday the 24th February, three Woodford
teams: Woodford Colts, Woodford Youth and Woodford United competed in the Ridgeway
Football Tournament for either the Cup or Plate. One of our teams, Woodford Youth, came third
in the Plate and Woodford United managed to come second also in the plate. To
top it all off, Woodford Colts managed to claim a 3-0 victory in the final of
the cup with Jack R, Tom and Mackenzie all scoring. As a result, the Woodford
teams went home smiling with a new piece of silverware in their cabinet.

KS2 Multi-Skills Festival at Ridgeway
Thursday 19th March 2015 – A fantastic afternoon of sport at Ridgeway School! 6 teams from schools in the Plympton family took part in this years Plympton Family KS2 Multi Skills event.
The different events were designed around the Olympic ideals of teamwork and determination and this really shone through all afternoon. There scores coming through from each school were really impressive – I don’t think we have ever had a faster Speed Bounce competition!
The overall winners on the day were Woodford Primary who won 4/5 of the team events to finish with an overall score of 1360 points. Not far behind them to take 2nd place were Yealmpstone Farm Primary with a huge score of 1257 – they prevented Woodford from getting the clean sweep of all events by winning the Ladder Relay. In third place were Chaddlewood primary with 1137 and Boringdon primary were not far behind with 983 overall. Unfortunately Old Priory A and B teams were not able to stay until the end so could not complete all of the events – hopefully they all enjoyed the ones they did take part in though and they still took home their certificate for competing.
As well as the certificates
for the teams there were also opportunities on the day for some children to win
individual medals in the Chest Push, Speed Bounce and Bean Bag Throw.
There was a tie for the boys
in the Speed Bounce with Billy and Bradley (Woodford and Boringdon) each
getting 65. Grace from Chaddlewood must have springs in her legs as she managed
a huge 72 to take the medal. Mason from Woodford took home two medals for
winning the Chest Push challenge and also the Bean Bag Throw. Zara from
Boringdon took the medal for the girls in the Chest Push and Shauna from
Yealmpstone Farm took first place in the Bean Bag Throw. Congratulations to you
all – everyone did brilliantly!
Well done to everyone who
took part today – I thought that it was a fantastic event and
I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. I look forward to seeing you all at our next
family event.

Woodford Girls 2 - Emily Dyer, Lucy Fulfitt, Grace Hosking and Tia Lynch

Last Monday, Woodford entered four teams in the DRSA gala. All teams competed in a 4 x 25m relay race against 13 other school teams from Plymouth. We did extremely well and everyone had fun despite the fact the water was icy cold..
Woodford Girls 1 finished 12th, Girls 2 finished 7th, Boys 1 finished 10th and Boys 2 finished 2nd, only to be disqualified for an illegal changeover!
There were some funny moments within the competition, like when Freddie brought his sandwich to the poolside, Tia dropped her goggles into the pool during the final and when Lucy got stuck in the pool and couldn't pull herself out of the water.,

Ridgeway Football Tournament
On the 27th of January, eight children from year 6 (Alex W, Jess O, Isaac F-W, William A, Leo W, Tom K, Jack R and Mackenzie T) were in invited to represent our school in a football tournament at Goals Soccer School. We Played 4 games and won 2 of them - 4-0 and 6-2. Because of these results, we were invited back the next day to play another round of games. On the 2nd day, we played a further three games and won another two which meant we would qualify for the knockout stages. Unfortunately we lost in the quarter finals to Bickleigh Down 4-3. Even though we didn’t win, we all had fun!

Cheerleading Camp
On Monday 15thof December, 12 pupils from Woodford Primary School attended a cheerleading camp at Notre Dame School. We did many different activities: dance, stunts and gym. All of these were lots of fun. During gym, we did handstands, bunny hops, cartwheels and many more skills. Then, we did dancing and learnt a dance which we had to perform in front of other schools. After that, we then did stunts and managed to lift Ebony into thigh hold and teddy bear before throwing her into the air and catching her. Some people from different schools volunteered to be lifted up in the air by the instructors. Gabby, Danny and Ebony were brave enough to have a go for Woodford. Overall, it was a great experience for us, and we learnt loads of new and different things.
Recently, Hele's and Ridgeway have been asked by Plymouth City Council to put together a strategy for future sports provision in Plympton and as part of that process, they need to gather support and identify the need from the local community. A short online survey has been created (follow the link below) that I would ask you to complete as the results will form the bedrock of any future developments. The survey will only take a few minutes and if you could share it with as many family and friends as possible, that would be great. The more responses they have, the easier it will be to demonstrate Plympton is deserving of better facilities.
