At Woodford Primary, we recognise exercise has a positive influence on both physical and emotional health, academic achievement, and interactions with others and, therefore, believe that Physical Education (PE) is fundamental to our children’s development and learning. Physical Education in our school should engage and motivate children, while providing a platform to develop key life skills such as teamwork, determination and respect.
AIMS
Through Physical Education, our pupils will learn:
- To develop an understanding of the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle and encourage a lifelong interest in some form of physical activity, sport or recreation.
- To develop self-confidence and social skills needed to understand the capabilities, limitations of oneself and others in competitive and co-operative physical activities.
- To appreciate the joy of moving practically and aesthetically.
- To foster an appreciation of safe practice, and develop a sense of responsibility towards their own and other’s safety and well-being.
- To develop skilful use of their bodies, the ability to remember, repeat and refine actions and to perform them with increasing control, co-ordination and fluency.
- To understand through their practical experiences how the body responds to exercise.
- To develop an increasing ability to select, link and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas, in a range of challenging and safe settings.
- To recognise, understand, appreciate and comment constructively on performance.
- To develop an awareness of the sporting culture and heritage of our society.
