The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
At Woodford, we have used the funding in the following ways:
Every year, we subscribe to the Plymouth Schools Sports Partnership (PSSP), a city-wide sports network. Subscription covers:
- Professional development for staff, to improve the standard of PE delivered in our school
- Weekly specialist sports teaching provided by Mrs Pullyblank from Heles.
- Acess to the level 2 and 3 competitions organised by the PSSP
- Use of trained Sports Leaders from Hele's who deliver extra-curricular clubs at Woodford. We've used the Sports Leaders for Dance, Netball and Multi-Skills clubs.
- Use of PSSP coaches and equipment. We have had Kevin Sellars in to deliver Indoor Rowing coaching and we've visited Paul Roberts at Oreston Quay to do Bell-Boating.
